The Beginning of LegendofLinc: How My Journey Started in 2017

When I moved back home to Los Angeles after college, I made a decision that would quietly reshape my entire career.

I was going to start making my own beats.

The First Drum Machine

Technically, it started earlier.

In 2017, while I was still in college — right after I quit playing basketball — I bought my first drum machine. I remember sitting in my apartment, experimenting with the software, learning how to assign sounds to each pad, programming basic drum patterns, and just having fun.

There was no pressure.

Just curiosity.

At the time, I didn’t fully understand what that small decision represented. But it was the beginning of something much bigger.

Freedom After Constraint

A big part of my transition into music was about freedom.

For years, I had bought into the dream of playing in the NBA. I believed that was the path that would allow me to support myself and my family financially through something I loved. But high-level sports environments come with structure, pressure, and constraints that you don’t always recognize until you step outside of them.

Competing at that level requires full commitment. Your schedule. Your time. Your identity. Everything is shaped around the system.

Music felt different.

Music allowed sovereignty.

Being able to create without needing a team’s approval, a coach’s validation, or a system’s permission gave me a sense of independence I hadn’t experienced before.

And producing my own beats was the next level of that freedom.

When Passion Meets Reality

After moving back home, I spent about four months seriously trying to develop my production skills.

But I’ll be honest.

Making beats — especially in the beginning — is a long, detailed process. Learning sound selection. Drum programming. Arrangement. Mixing. Structure. It requires patience and repetition.

At that stage, I lacked both.

More importantly, I didn’t love it enough.

I love writing songs.

I love recording vocals.

I love shaping melodies and lyrics.

Producing was interesting, but it wasn’t where my heart naturally lived. And sometimes that honesty matters.

I stepped back from making beats full-time and focused on writing and recording instead.

Collaboration and Growth

Over time, I began building relationships with local producers. Eventually, I expanded beyond my city and started working with producers from around the world — many of whom I found on YouTube.

That collaboration phase was crucial.

Together, we created hundreds of demos and unreleased songs. Each one sharpened my songwriting ability. Each one helped me refine my sound. Each one moved LegendofLinc forward.

But something started shifting again.

Why Production Matters to Me Now

At this stage of my career, ownership is a major priority.

Not just ownership of masters.

Ownership of process.

Ownership of sound.

Ownership of creative direction.

That’s why I’ve returned to producing my own records.

And that’s exactly what I’ve done for my upcoming release:

LegendofLinc Vol. II

Releasing March 9, 2026.

Producing this project myself represents growth. It represents discipline. It represents the full-circle moment of going from a college dorm room experimenting with drum pads to building a project from the ground up.

It’s one of the greatest accomplishments of my musical journey so far.

And I can’t wait for you to hear it.
